Last week was officially my final week working in the corporate world, and I couldn’t be more terrified but excited. There’s definitely a different kind of pressure when you and your husband own your own businesses and everything depends on that. I have a feeling that over the next few months Brandon and I will have our heads down working like crazy animals to focus on building a strong foundation for our futures. With that said, I needed a space at home to work in—aka an office. Today I’m sharing a tiny little sneak peek of my new space!
Like I’ve said before, Brandon and I are currently living in a twin home after we sold our past house very quickly. We haven’t had the time to build our next home, so we’re doing our best to make this space work for the next year or so. The front room was partially a guest room and partially my office. It had carpet on the floor, which I hated and was painted a very mundane, builder-grade tan. No, thank you! I knew I needed to spend a few bucks and put in a few man hours to create a space I could be productive in. After all, I will be spending 40+ hours a week in this room. But then again I knew I didn’t want to spend an outrageous amount on a temporary space, so here’s what I did.
The first thing to go was the carpet. I installed the same LVP flooring that the rest of the house had, which will actually increase the value of the home. I also painted the walls, trim, and ceiling a brighter white color to make the room look bigger—p.s. painting is the worst!
As a home designer, I am obsessed with the details. Those are the things that really make a space feel complete. I was super excited to team up with Schlage® to help make my Tuscan-feeling office more of the farmhouse design I envisioned.
Farmhouse design has evolved from being based in dark-toned woods to now including lighter wood finishes and softer color schemes. The country chic style is now often seen overlapping with industrial style products, which I’ve officially fallen in love with. Especially when it comes to dark, black accents like doorknobs and other accent accessories. Switching our doorknobs is a super simple upgrade you can do in just minutes. Think low-investment but super high impact!
My old knobs were actually the Schlage® Sacramento Lever which I liked, but after painting my entire house, they weren’t looking good anymore. Plus, I knew I wanted a bolder, black style. I decided to upgrade to the Schlage® Latitude Lever with Century trim. Schlage recently launched a campaign, “Open Possibilities,” to bring door hardware to the forefront as an accessory that can complete or enhance the look of any room, and I just loved how these new levers standout against my bright white doors. After installing them in my home, I loved them so much that I even starting putting them in our spec and custom homes. (More pictures of those to come later this week!) Check out the before and after pictures below to see the serious difference. I love that Schlage® offers hardware for every room so it’s so easy to pull every space together.
