So it’s been a hot second since I’ve been on here—over 2 months to be exact! In the past 6 years of having this blog, I’ve never gone more than a few weeks without posting, and that was a rarity for me. I remember when I had the time to post 5 days a week. Ha! It’s crazy how life gets so busy as you get older and priorities change. Owning and running two different businesses keeps me insanely busy. I love it, but it leaves me very little time for much else.
I realized I really needed to update my wardrobe and add easy-to-wear pieces that would work for meetings and job site visits. As soon as I stumbled upon this peplum shirt dress I knew I had to have this versatile, staple piece. It’s literally so comfy and I can’t wait to layer sweaters over it and add booties. I also recently pulled the trigger and bought the Rebecca Minkoff Julian Backpack that I’ve been wanting for what feels like years.
Hey party people! Long time, no post. Sorry about that! It’s been pretty crazy busy with work, but I’m planning to get back to regular posting in the next month or so. Prep yourself for lots of pretty homes that we’re building, fall outfits, and I’m so excited to finally start planning our next build—hallelujah!
Summer is our busiest time of the year and this summer we’re crowning as our busiest yet. Brandon and I are constantly running around checking on job, meeting with clients, doing walk throughs with electricians or plumbers and so on. Our to-do list right now is never ending. We’re working about 15-16 hour days, and seriously feeling the gilt of neglecting the pups by not playing as much or taking them to the lake to swim. But the one thing we do always keep constant in their lives is what we feed them, and that’s something we’ll NEVER neglect.
I just got back from a wonderful, 10-day trip to South Carolina and North Carolina for my brother’s wedding. The Carolina’s are one of my favorite places—Brandon and I even lived there for 6 months about 5 years ago. We flew into Myrtle Beach where we lived and spent the first 2 days exploring our favorite spots and absolutely stuffing our faces with as much seafood from our favorite restaurants as we possibly could.
Summer is my favorite time of the year! It means running around until late, days at the beach, backyard BBQs, grilling out, and an overwhelming amount of guacamole. At the end of a long week the thought of sipping a cold one while lying out at the pool, or golfing with my hubby Brandon gets me through. Oh, and I cant forget the Farmer’s Market, weekend trips and all the patios we can sit at. Summer may be one of the busiest times of the year for us, but I never forget to make room for the fun stuff.
Finally a beautiful day in Iowa has arrived—took long enough. Now that I work from home it’s a bit easier to take a quite break and enjoy some time in the sun. We live close to a lake here in Central Iowa, I love heading to the beach or marina for an afternoon break. I seriously can’t for boating, beach days, or afternoons poolside, but that means it’s time to break out that Hawaiian Tropic® Silk Hydration™.
I love living super close to one of the biggest lakes in Central Iowa. Whether we are going there to play with the dogs or just relaxing and enjoying, mother nature, we’re usually out at the lake in the sunshine once a week. The outdoors is a big part of the Cheek family’s life, and I’m not one to hide from the sun, but as I’m getting older, I’m realizing just how important it is to protect my skin.
Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend. Brandon and I headed to Omaha for a 3-day weekend at my parents to celebrate the holiday and my mom’s birthday on Saturday. My parents just put in a pool, so we spent the weekend helping with landscaping and odds and ends to get ready to officially open it. I can’t wait.
Yes, it’s the longest blog title I’ve ever had, but I thought it was more than fitting. This is about to be one of my longest blog posts, too. When you retire from the corporate grind at 25, I feel like there’s bound to be a lot to say. But more on those specific details …
Yes, Meyer and I are wearing matching sweaters in today’s post. How cute, right? When it comes to our pups, Brandon and I can get a little crazy. We treat them just like their family. They sleep in bed with us, eat with us, travel with us (sometimes we wear the same clothing); they’re just like our kids. When it comes to Christmas, they can always count on their personalized stocking hanging on the mantle and presents under the tree.
It’s that time of the year for Christmas cards! Ever since I was little, I have memories of watching my mom put together our family Christmas cards. I remember thinking, wow I can’t wait to have my own family holiday cards one day. It’s my first Christmas as a wife, and I couldn’t be happier that Brandon and I are officially a little family with Meyer May and Dash Day. Blessed would be an understatement!
Happy holiday season! I’m sharing another sneak peek of our first official family Christmas card photo shoot. I can’t wait to make this a tradition. Brandon and I are super casual people, so it’s fun to have an excuse to get fancy for a change. I absolutely love this time of the year: The cheery spirits, decorations, family gatherings, and the perfect time to dress up.
The weather has officially gotten cold here in Iowa and I’m actually getting excited for the first snowfall of the year. With the cold weather brings the holiday season—something I’m also so excited for! I can’t wait to just spend 4 days this week with my family, which something we haven’t done much this busy year. This is Brandon and I’s first holiday season as a married couple.
Happy Monday! I just spent the best 2-day weekend at my parent’s house in Omaha with Brandon and the pups. They live on about 30 acres of land, which makes it so nice to escape and get away from everything. It was so relaxing and JUST what we needed. My brother and future sister-in-law, Mandi, also live in Omaha and have a Vizsla pup about 1 month older than Dash. Dash and Breck LOVE to play.
It’s Friday. TGIF! It’s been another crazy busy week. Shocking, right? Brandon and I are heading to Omaha this weekend for a bridal shower and to hang out with my family. We haven’t been back since the fourth of July, which is one of the longest periods of time I’ve spent away. I’m not a fan of that but am super excited to finally be able to go home. Yesterday was a pretty exciting one—definitely one I’ll never forget!
Happy Monday. Sorry I was so MIA last week. Brandon and I have been busy, busy! We have quite a few projects that will be wrapping up in the next 30 days so it’s crunch time. This weekend I met with clients, cleaned around the house, and ran so many errands. I have officially found my favorite errands dress from Maude, an online boutique with a brick and mortar in Fayetteville.
Turtleneck Sweater | Cape Sweater (60% off!) | Jeans (only $58!) | Over-The-Knee Boots | Bag (25% off!) | Sunglasses (25% off!) Fall’s chilly weather officially hit Iowa yesterday, which calls for lots of warm layers. It’s crazy how the temperature can just drop to the 50’s overnight. When it’s this chilly, I love the ease of …
